Hawaiian/Okinawan singer Anjani Thomas was prominent on Leonard Cohen's last album and her own new release is entirely co-written by the pair, with Cohen producing. It's really a joint album, as the spirit of the Canadian singer/poet shines throughout even though he doesn't sing on it, but Anjani herself contributes mightily. Her minimalist jazzy arrangements and the lingering clarity of her voice bring a new dimension to her own and Cohen's art. From the smouldering title track to the final bittersweet "Thanks for the Dance" it's an experience to savour.
