Leonard Cohen fascinates 5,000 concertgoers at first-ever Istanbul gig

Today's Zaman - August 7, 2009 by Ahsen Utku

“I didn't come all this way to Istanbul to fool you,” sings legendary Canadian poet-musician Leonard Cohen in his song "Hallelujah" to the tremendous applause and cheers of a 5,000-strong crowd on a hot and humid Istanbul evening at the Cemil Topuzlu Open-air Theater.

These words were more than just a song. These words compensated for the great disappointment Cohen fans in Istanbul felt as a result of last year's canceled concert. After learning that the legend of love songs was to come to Istanbul last August, fans were frustrated with the cancellation of the concert. This year, when the two concerts were first announced, everybody's excitement was suppressed, wondering, “What if they are cancelled again?” But their dream came true. The cult name in poetry and music gave his first concert in Istanbul on Wednesday night as part of his ongoing world tour, which began in Germany on July 1. And Cohen himself probably also regretted not coming before, after experiencing the astonishing interaction with the Turkish audience.

Born in Canada in 1934, Cohen came from a Jewish family that had its roots in Poland and Lithuania. Cohen's father died when Cohen was 9. He felt the influence of religion in every stage of his life. After many years, he would describe his youth with the words, “I had a very Messianic childhood.” He would say, “I was told I was a descendant of Aaron, the high priest.” It is not surprising to see that Cohen always reflected a spiritual aspect in his poems and songs.

Cohen spent his youth largely writing poetry. After becoming a well-known poet in Canada, he moved to the United States in 1967 to continue his career as a folk singer-songwriter. His first album, "Songs of Leonard Cohen," released that same year, was not a commercial success, but he was already evaluated as one of the most significant names in folk music. The 1980s and '90s would bring worldwide fame to Cohen's beautiful songs, each of which would gather a cult following. In 1996 Cohen was ordained as a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monk and took the Dharma name Jikan, meaning “silence.” After his seclusion ended in 1999, Cohen would return with “Ten New Songs” in 2001. What a blessed comeback it was.

The lyrics of Cohen's songs are no different from his poems in terms of depth and meaning. Each word is carefully chosen for the place where it belongs and where it will penetrate directly into the listener's heart. The romance in his songs could reach the highest level; “Dance Me to the End of Love” from the album “Various Positions” became the song of lovers and everyone who wanted to love. Cohen also never hesitated to make spiritual, political and even satirical comments, as is largely perceptible in his song “Democracy” from the album “The Future,” for instance. Considering that it could take Cohen a year to complete a song, it is not surprising to observe that perfection comes out at the point where love meets innocence and politics meets irony.

‘Everybody knows’

This was what the people of Istanbul had waited for, for so many years. However, Cohen's long-awaited first Istanbul appearance on Wednesday drew protests from a 15-member group who demanded Cohen cancel a planned appearance in Israel on Sept. 24. The group, holding placards that read, “Everybody Knows… Israel is a killer” in a reference to the title of a song featured on Cohen's 1988 album “I'm Your Man,” demanded that Cohen perform in Ramallah instead of Tel Aviv. After a short period of tension at the entrance of the concert hall, the group peacefully ended their protest just before the concert started.

Inside the concert hall, the ambiance was very different. The arena was full to the brim with enthusiastic people applauding madly as Cohen appeared on the stage just on time, not a minute too early or late. With a modest but a charismatic greeting, Cohen started with the classic, "Dance Me to the End of Love," to a magnificent cheer from the crowd -- so loud that it even drowned out the music played on the stage for a while. Quintessential Cohen songs -- “Famous Blue Raincoat,” “Suzanne,” “So Long, Marianne,” “I'm Your Man” and “First We Take Manhattan” -- followed.

During the concert, Cohen never abandoned his respectful attitude, taking off his hat with a respectful gesture towards his companions as they played music. He showed the same respect to his audience: at the so-called end of the concert, he left the microphone on the floor as he greeted the audience with an appreciative thanks, but this was not enough for his fans. Cohen returned to the stage for four encores; every time the audience became more and more rapturous. Despite his age, Cohen did not seem to be exhausted after playing and singing for more than two-and-a-half hours. Every time he tried to leave the stage, the audience cheered up by his style of leaving: Cohen was running, dancing and turning around. Turning back every time, he started to sing songs of "separation," which was his way of humorously bidding farewell.

So, Cohen was in Istanbul for two fabulous, unforgettable concerts that are sure to live on in the audiences' memories for as long as they live. The 74-year-old Cohen made everyone remember the unifying power of music once again when he thanked the audience for its “warm reception” in “complete peace in a time of chaos and suffering” and continued with his unforgettable lyrics: “Ring the bells that still can sing. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.”

Three hours at the top of the tower of song

Hürriyet Daily News - August 6, 2009 by Çetin Cem Yilmaz

Legendary poet/songwriter Leonard Cohen lights up Istanbul with his brilliant three-hour set at the Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Concert Hall. The singer heartens his 4,000 fans not only with his astounding melodies and timeless lyrics on love, politics and life, but also with his gentle, humble stage persona

Leonard Cohen is not getting older; he is only getting better.

Since the Canadian poet/songwriter ended his 15-year concert hiatus in 2008, Western critics have been hailing his comeback performances as the best of Cohen’s career. His first concert in Turkey, held Wednesday at the Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Concert Hall in Istanbul, showed that the pundits were not exaggerating.

Before showing their skills on stage, Cohen and his band proved their punctuality: It was only seconds past 9 p.m. when the band broke into the first notes of “Dance Me to the End of Love.” A popular pick for wedding ceremonies, the song stands among one of the favorite Cohen tunes of Turkish fans, but it could hardly fulfill its crowd-pleasing potential since about the quarter of the spectators were still trying to find their seats. The same went for “The Future,” “Ain’t No Cure For Love” and even the fourth song, “Bird on the Wire,” as the singer’s Turkish fans apparently did not share his punctuality.

But to give credit where it is due, once seated, the spectators did their best to become a part of the act, adding extra rhythm to the songs with their handclaps and singing along so subtly that it sounded as if they were afraid of breaking a spell.

Cohen too acknowledged the fans’ participation. “Thank you for your warm and hospitable reception,” he said in his deep baritone voice. “Tonight we will give everything we have.”

This they did, not only the great songwriter himself, but his entire nine-piece group. Take the long, breathtaking solo performance by guitarist Javier Mas, for example. The musician from Barcelona, who Cohen hailed as a “virtuoso” several times, delivered an inspiring passage that lasted approximately three minutes before the band slid into the beautiful “Who By Fire.”

Mas’ solo was no exception; Cohen made way for his fellow musicians many times, refusing to see them as simply a back up band. Each of them performed a solo sometime during the three-hour set, and Cohen showed a delicate respect every time, taking off his hat and standing utterly motionless to the side of the performer.

For a music legend whose name is carved into history as a solo performer, minimizing his ego to that degree took a lot of wisdom. Cohen had that, of course. He also had many praises for his band members and was generous in giving them deserved accolades – “impeccable” and “incomparable,” to name just two.

But, of course, no matter how amazingly capable and perfectly harmonious the players were, Cohen outshined them all. With his elegant looks, gentle talk and delicate moves, he proved to be the perfect gentleman of rock and folk music. One wonders how he can knock the listener down, as in a deadly punch, with that velvet glove. In a magnificent trio of “Suzanne,” “So Long, Marianne” and “Hallelujah,” Cohen delivered some of the best-written, most heartbreaking songs of all time, and added the betrayal-themed “Famous Blue Raincoat” as one of his encores.

His catalogue was not limited to love songs, though. Cohen stung with politically charged lyrics, too, on songs including “Everybody Knows,” “The Future,” “The Partisan” and “Anthem.” The singer once famously said, when he was asked about his feelings after Sept. 11, that he had said it all before in those songs. He was right; what can be said about conflicts, wars and violence is perfectly encapsulated in their lyrics.

The 74-year-old singer also let loose his more unruly and impish side on numbers like “I’m Your Man,” which was backed by a massive sing-along by fans.

Every time the artist hailed the spectators to conclude his show, bowed out and then danced his way off the stage, he was called back again. Cohen made four encores and played for almost three hours, but even at the very end, the audience had not had enough of him.

The words this inspirational musician brought from his very own “tower of song” were as revelatory as they have been over the past four decades. After being enchanted by his lyrics and melodies through recorded materials, Turkish fans were finally honored by Cohen’s presence. For many, that was the end of the “waiting for a miracle” – a miracle that was the man himself, along with his wonderfully penned songs.

But I have to tell the audience more than the first day was great. 'I'm Your Cohen's mouth Man'in in the last line was long to take note. Leonard Cohen, this great disciple in concert for years, does not say 'Chelsea Hotel' award by saying the song has. A brief chat with Leonard Cohen

Gazete Vatan - August 7, 2009 by Zülfü Livaneli

Leonard Cohen in my youth years in Ankara's "Songs of Love and Hate" and put it on a long top of the pickup DUAL hear it. Sounds and songs of the poet in the position of calm me were very impressed.

Then I listen to all the albums, most of the songs I had on.

"Hola Zulfu!" He screams.

"Hola Javier!" I said, "What are you doing in Istanbul?"

"Leonard Cohen world tour with the play," he said. "Proof of income, you'll see. Mr. Cohen told you very well and the orchestra. Please come. "

"Well!" I said. I went to rehearsal, it's great orchestras and working great I saw Leonard Cohen. Then we have room to chat with Leonard Cohen, is taking pictures, it was a gift of books published in America.

So a wise person and polite, although it will take a little bit after the concert tried to offer me a drink.

I also have a concert tomorrow. This room will belong to me after 12 hours. Then I let you treat said.

We smile.

Then watched the first half of the concert.

O great Leonard Cohen, with his felt hat is nearer to the output stage, we kneel in front of Javier and "Dance to the End of Love" track by looking at him, he said.

But right.

Javier Mas lavta Because the mandolin, the guitar adds to the group and I think a great Mediterranean unseasoned most important musicians in the world tour.

The tour was over the end of this year. Javier Mas do something next year to Istanbul and would like to. Projects were immediately buried during meals.

I was proud of him once again, I was proud.

There it is, so many years spent in music, and do not know where what appears.

The 74-year-old man inside the shaking, not only to listen to a scratchy sound, scene beyond what they can do well was that a concert. Love coming to Istanbul, and was melancholy, was old age, youth, and year of the songs, the music was.

If a divine power of music, that Leonard Cohen was standing opposite me with all the lines.

People may give itself the best birthday gift I gave myself. Between 27 years to 40 years üstü'lerin a special concert of Leonard Cohen!

I probably would not know but I did not. The only people I can not believe tickets eyes looked a few times. Then go to the concert area crowded with a large slope on the way out he found my own.

In the introduction, will give a concert in Israel to that of Cohen et proteto the 'Cohen, playing in Israel' written on paper from a few people who attempt to distribute the group of young people had. Is the area of the paper, who would have something to poke around effort, the young people of a higher output volume. The protest in front of me slowly progressive faith in ortayas, crowd estimated to be was not difficult at all. Not here, they just like many 74-year-old man inside and you still have the power to shake the man's voice had come to listen.

5 thousand people filled to overflowing when I get my place in the concert area, Cohen's followers felt that moment was to come alone. As if it did not know it from scratch like loneliness learn new astonishment had a sour, but after the first birthday gift of self is considered a given and a joy mixed with pride that I received from loneliness. Cohen to come to the concert alone, come along would you say man ...

DANCE TO THE WORLD YILDIZI in FINGER TIPS

Show full nine hours of my life and the special moment he appeared on stage to accompany me back to the fonda. Later I enjoyed too much to listen to the Madeleine, but Peyroux'tan necessarily a Cohen song 'Dance me to the End of Love' began. This song from the last few months, who died gift choreographer Pina Bausch'a Roll back cover of the magazine I noticed that somehow I was listening to think. Go to the loss of the life of a dancer who can be said then I thought one of the most heartfelt songs.

Cohen, a song on the beginning of the knee collapsed, he tells the love of imaginary women. Under black trilby hat, scrawny body, and said bend in time, it's only there to tell me that this song I wanted to feel. I looked to my side, if it was only prepared to hit my face like a joke, right and left side and my seats were empty. Maybe I was sitting in the blank at the time. A couple next to me during a three-neck, the other party two seats in the future, a man alone. In front of me an 'the crew binoculars'. They might want to consider glasses hand was beginning to hinder that, 'The Future' was rid of me this idea.

Hanging a giant screen on stage. Curtains on the team behind a rather crowded Cohen could hardly choose a Music Goddess. Immediately before the music Tanr?'s?ysa our fingertips is dancing, so large that it makes so smoothly, it is a spiritual state, attitude, however, is entranced. He made a hat to the touch, we are struggling to see the face that I like very many. Remote does not allow for more, down a bit with the eye is possible to see Cohen. Then 'Aint No Cure For Love' and speaks Cohen. "To be here and honor for me to sing is you. Thank you for this beautiful evening and the temperature, folks," he says.

A mythological Cohen CONCERT

Ozan, 'Who by Fire' song says, the team all the skills are a hair on a partnerships. On the right side of the scene, the guitarist sitting on a velvet chair, a guitar speak with udi is eda, the solo is at the olive trees in the Mediterranean, mild shock on my face is lighter. Flowing from a rolling thunder of applause the audience ... Three is the vocalist in one of her harp, is wrapt in a mythological atmosphere. Leonard Cohen, the team entered into a 15-minute call is presented to the audience. No other musicians, in this regard as it must not succeed. Music goes on, Cohen, bass master musician each declaring that the drummer, but its style, the song is talking about them söylüyormus, cas?na. And hats out in front of each one is long and bends.

Contribution of 15-minute call to tell me instead of the loneliness in the growing stage, almost a divine power in the hands of this man how it is going to jump and bounce. Entries and exits to the stage, Cohen in the mood for a laylaylom. While leaving the scene is bouncing pogo stick, pogo stick then gets back. Even a full moon rose, and this guy!

In Gaza because of the audience SONG

More in concert with binoculars, camera, and the clingy girlfriend audience, 'Hallellujah' song is in the lurch. And I still 31'inde died (suicide) to move to a position I respect the man. How about the song, but who you know better telling Cohen Jeff Buckley's running out for the eyes, "Your faith was strong but you needed proof, you saw her bathing on the roof".

Cohen predicted the song will tell you to do so soon 'I'm your Man' with the first timbre, to rapturous applause running. In the air with an intense love the smell and sound of Cohen's identity and sexuality burst in mystery! At the end of the song the audience could not get gas, do not permit to Cohen last word and the song ends the hall. 'I'm Your Man'.

Smile, and 'My Man'!

"I'm trying to ride"

Cohen at night, when bis four times the output for any uproar in the victim not to go I would get up from my place. This time 'Whither Thou Goest' song, and Cohen, still tired from the same team with patience and respect to the audience is introduced. And 'laylaylom' is bound.

No, no do not go ...

Cohen left to do. Like most love to come back like store, the blue lights under the 'Famous Blue raincoat' is bursting. Hüzün de dizboyu. The only part of the concert during the hold, finds an echo biste. Full against me now. B?rak?p already sliding down the remote for a while early leaving myself to the audience at the empty seat I had left. Cohen says, "It's four in the morning, the end of december. Live in August, December hüzün, Cohen I do it!

Three hours of my time looking at the end of the concert, 23:56. Bit song before the concert with "I'm trying to leave," he says master, to the audience by caste. To smile, to Cohen to take laf ...

And the end is going to leave. Flip-flop at the vocalist and harmonica scene roaring performance, the guitar solo and a modest man and respect his team against the under fedora spirit to a concert 74'lük gencecik of an old man is marked.

***

One person had a ticket, there you are, 40 years old or a Leonard Cohen concert I want to gift me. And the front row!

Leonard Cohen's legendary artists are expected to come for years, finally the day before meeting with Cemil Topuzlu Outdoor Stage was at the Turkish fans.

Tells the romantic songs with a full moon night and do not lose energy according to the age of Cohen, 5 thousand people came to watch him in a happy home, was off.

Leonard Cohen, I love living at the beginning of my college years, the volume of the background music with the gauzy, word of the lord ... Turkey, the first time in more than 40 years in the scene is a musical career. Such as case, the concert an hour before I find myself in the open. I'm not alone, I carry with me the same excitement and from early on, the door has created a long queue. Yet the activists protest concert in Israel does not appear obvious.

LED screens are used abundantly in other concerts, they will not open. A huge curtain hanging in the background scene. Illustrations have on the music goddess. Quite familiar serili carpet on the floor, as received from the Grand Bazaar ... Stage one of the velvet seats and a 10-person team are musical instruments.

Honor to be here is

Cohen, in the rush to the stage accompanied by the applause comes in steps. Kneel on the seat by guitarist "Dance Me to the End Of Love" I say. Then "The Future", "Ain't No Cure For Love" is coming. After the rapturous applause "honor to be here and to sing is you. This beautiful evening and thank you for your warmth," he says. Then, "Everybody Knows" is beginning to tell a classic song.

Cohen says many songs throughout the night and less talk. "Who by Fire" song is all orchestral virtuoso display. I want a guitar solo that guitarist velvet seats, is in hand for a moment we thought ud. Electric guitar is the rhythm at Cohen. The Fund is lighting goddess, goddess of the vocalist's hand to join similar songs with a harp. "We will give a short" says Cohen, is leaving the scene to jump to jump.

Bis 4 times was

Cohen comes to the stage again in the second half run. "Tower of Song", "Suzanne", "Hallelujah" and "I'm Your Man" as the song says do not forget. O'S, bass baritone tones of love to everyone is dealing with. To go to a concert alone with the sadness I would follow around for a while. The average age of 35 in the night, a couple of years behind the love adeta live. Cohen, bid farewell to the stage thanks to four times more applause is coming. In the majority of the night if you want does not end, all gathered in front of the stage and the orchestra "Whither Thou Goest" to punctuate the night as u say.

74 years old, a smooth voice ...

Zaman - August 7, 2009 by Yelda Eroglu

You know there are people with a concert full of equipment. Ticket queues to wait on you, with a truck full of panikatak patients to wait in queue as hot dog, to frighten them away, bring iyicene mettle.

I'm a human cat t?ynetli I think of more when my eyes are growing. Sit in my house, put the CD in my last set of quality music (even if of course), listen to sweet understanding I '.

And some artists, but, within each type of piercing maruzat "Listen to me, before dying," he says. Our ears are sharper than in the intersection of our lives kah, kah we all remember the murmur of intersection. Live to see it a ton yas, anm?s,l?k wants to attract more people polish reality. Leonard Cohen one of them. In fact, everything in the front. Songs like "You can make an exception for" de. I myself with the 30 odd "Cohen then going to see the world eye, I'll listen to sound alive." 60 odd when I enthuse as a friend, "I wish I could see." they are whining. 20'likleri see that in concert, and we have completed the chain of generations that a period of more than 50 years, how a voice can be so attractive?

Like all real artists, but Cohen also was forced from performing art. Promise in high school listening to all the world who want to be a preacher (in a different format, if this desire is realized Do not count?), The first youth this man says in the poem, the poem does make money when I noticed the pain the pain, but is to music. A requirement that the stop of the tour for him. Financial concerns compression, last night in a Buddhist temple to pray would be singing to us instead. Knowing all this, I snap out to the stage to start the song, "When should we go", such as precipitation comes first to me. I would give up this idea to see Bis yapmaktaki of generosity. The old Turkish films, such as those on the inside cover nes,'e (Concerns of blank / fact he was like me).

I have no qualifications, but an artist expert in stage performance will be so! To listen to listen to hundreds of times should now start to give slightly hardship Dance Me to the End of Love'? said, just as described in the song, such as an olive branch to the pigeon house and had us removed. This 74-year-old man on a period close to three hours without a respite, without rough singing Add hugeness. Each song took off at the end of the beginning of the chest taken to offer thanks for the hat, even loosen a button jacket, skinny pants thing sitting in the body, this smallish, old man; installed on the narrow shoulder Harbiye Open Air fills the crowd. Call in the jumble of speech was positively be persuaded. This man Marlon Brando'suydu of music (I have borrowed this saying). If you do not need the role to monitor how Brando'yu; Cohen to sing do not need to be listening to. We will log and let the press talk normally receive and listen again.

Can not stop from talking about the three vocal concerts. Maskülen clothes, reminiscent of a'80s back to the front foot with minor movements of consumers had a cliché marvelous. This belly full of cliche, a sudden jump in the middle of the song and to pare back the shock at how they think of you that have.

Cohen said all of the classic will be missing. But others say they would not have hesitated to make the classic treatment. He lives in the fold of the ear for melody that Dick does not arise if it gets them in one ear, like a blow. This familiarity with the most profound influence in a secret misery of a protest unless disclosure combative, extending from there to understand that a broken-hearted lyrics.

The summary of an entire concert, and I Knows'?n Everybody "Everybody knows the dice are fraudulent and / Yet everyone continues to take chances, and expressed" words of the owner's voice heard or alive. Carefully placed in important events of my life I have to file it. I hope everyone is as far as I am lucky.

Have learned from the man who kneel

GazetePort - August 6, 2009 by Murat Sabuncu

Does the scene last night was that if he told me under the spot light in my life you do not know. In fact, from me Leonard Cohen "I am your man'i went to listen. Write words in the song I wondered as I had to kneel. Yes, knees and repeatedly collapsed. And a man may be respected in the state of the collapsing of the knee has shown me. For as long as they arise to kneel in front of you.

Boris Vian'? love. I have read every book I found. His early death in the story of your life ... I would always care. Well, according to head-lived, time is not very clear, and has written great works died in young age. Close to friends "on his early death," who was do güzelleme.

Years ago, I was sick. After the operation. I called a friend who knows my Güzelleme. "Boris Vian'c?s?n know, I heard surgery" My heart has been disassembled.

"Day of the foam" times. Has promised me that day. If you give up hope one day I always let you know when it was il.

Where is it now, but if readers do not know if I have a story to him. If you like Leonard Cohen aging maybe "70" s continue to live up to. I asked myself. Young is "early" i want to have become easier over the years, want to end? In my 40 years on this question is still necessary to be my chest, not from the end of the journey towards the end I'm afraid of the difficulties they would respond.

Or time is more valuable as the years progress. Maybe this is why at the start yesterday that the full concert on stage 9. Most people who live in this land for the concert start time, normal time is 30 minutes plus, full settlement lasted a few songs. But late in the mobile phones and hand "records, despite trying to make light of the harassment" My concentration has not corrupted.

Kneel up to "those who applaud after songs" or during the performance of other friends too much influence on one's hat off to greet me. It was a salute that ..

Hat heart, neck, slight slant, so to speak, such as respect for the position.

Sure "farewell scene". Each time leaving the scene "by bouncing their own dance to" so good that the show ..

I went after one of his songs for years. "I am your man". His love of the song after. Gave me a new mark in the final last night. Was one of the last song.

"I tried to leave you". I tried to leave.

It was like a road map more than any other passionate words of the song. Can not be denied, shut down an unending love. And Cohen had Cohen'lig(ini again. How I am your man or woman is like the "eye of a man, even if there is to the nation.".

Woman in love with this song as "a time to laugh will make every effort" guy came to my face. I could be happy? I asked. Kendi mutlulug(unun hiçbir önemi yokmus, gibi.

I do not know that the lives of women. But listening to him last night in the open, was happy, laughing, and dream, and was sadden, but not from anyone in that scene was not like.

My favorite song in place of "you want a love otherwise you will wear the mask" der Cohen. The last songs that part of "the mask of an old man," he has changed. Perhaps the secret to peace in years .. here ..

Leonard Cohen sobrecoge a Palma

Leonard Cohen overwhelms PalmaCohen

El Pais - August 12, 2009

Leonard Cohen has served his term in Palma and has offered the best we had on stage before nearly 3,000 spectators that fell mesmerized from the first chords of "Dance me to the end of love", among them the Infanta Elena and Duques de Palma. The Canadian musician was shelled subjects of his latest album, the live "Live in London" which combines the best of the contemporary repertoire of the legendary singer. Almost at the beginning of the second concert of the tour in Spanish that will tour ten cities, Cohen has stated its intention in this performance: "For if our path to bring us back here, we are ready to offer all we have." And has done so, leading a succession of great songs that have marked the 40 years of his career as "Bird on the Wire," "Everybody knows" or "So long Marianne". Against a background sometimes red, sometimes gray, purple and yellow, Canada has managed to go public with all evoking the palette of emotions. After the break of a concert of nearly 30 songs, Cohen has been launched with the famous "Suzanne" and shortly thereafter, with the mythical "Halleluyah," which has started to chant his knees and that has created one of the many moments summit of the night. Cohen has been removed three times to bring his hat to the musicians who accompanied him, since virtuous guitarist of Barcelona, "impeccable" keyboard and "unique" vocals, not to mention an ironic nod to the two "athletes" choristers. The deep voice of the man in the grave is still almost impossible intact its 74 years, like his energy, something that Cohen has shown in the nearly three hours of concert in the capital of the Balearic Islands, which ended with a "thank friends and the audience rise from their seats and glued to the stage. In addition to part of the Royal Family, to the public from Palma Arena velodrome were other familiar faces, such as Prince Kyril of Bulgaria and his wife, Rosario Nadal of Mallorca, and the filmmakers Fernando and David Trueba. In its second international tour after fifteen years without stepping onto a stage and forced by the fraud of his former representative, Cohen is expected scenarios Vigo, Gerona, Madrid, Granada, Zaragoza, Bilbao, Valencia and Barcelona.

Cohen, gravedad y potencia cuarenta años después

Elmundo - August 12, 2009 by Fernando Merino (Photo: Jordi Avellà)

No faltaron referencias a Bird on the wire, Everybody knows, Who by fire o In my secret life.

Cohen, seriousness and power forty years later

Elmundo - August 12, 2009 by Fernando Merino (Photo: Jordi Avellà)

Members of the Royal Family did not want to miss one of yesterday evening's most eagerly awaited mallorquín August. The Infanta Elena and Cristina, Inaki Urdangarín, Prince Kiril of Bulgaria and his wife, Rosario Nadal was left to see in the Palma Arena to share with about three thousand spectators, among whom was also the filmmaker Fernando Trueba, the Cohen returns to the island Their presence increased the security of the site and turned it into a miniature cage.

Last night hosted Mallorca Mallorca Leonard Cohen to two decades after his first visit. Then he was at the Auditorium of Palma, the year I'm Your Man, 1988, and the reference on this occasion was Live in London, reflecting the legendary concert in July last year at the O2 Arena in London, which marked the return to Canadian singer-songwriter scene after having spent fifteen years away.

In the Palma Arena is clothing six musicians and three vocalists, while he appeared impeccably dressed in dark suit. Spanish guitar chords and a Leonard Cohen classic hat topped with pulled out his first notes of Dance me to the end of love. From there he was preparing to donate a sentimental journey for his four decades as a songwriter.

At 74 years-the second part of his tour he will celebrate Spanish and 75 - shows that it is still able to resist on the scene about three hours in front of the microphone retaining the power and seriousness of the subject. His perfection is undeniable and absolute. A team arrived from Belgium was responsible for his voice to sound throughout the velodrome.

There were references to Bird on the wire Everybody knows, Who by fire or In my secret life. A battery of songs without pause that ripped fervent applause. The tour promised hearts intertwined pure mystique, with constant references to pacifism and a Leonard Cohen kneeling on the stage.

After half past ten p.m. The rest began. A break of 20 minutes to rest and to reinvent the concert. A compact is a first part followed the singer accompanied only by the vocal trio and keyboard. Each song was used to retrieve a member of the band to reunite in Sisters of Mercy.

This journey of 40 years of history as a subject-say that the good-great classic for the outcome. Sustained in a climax that happened I'm your man, or Allellujah Suzanne, now become an icon of his music from that recorded in 1967. Just enough line so that the voice of silence between the applause Cohen.

The unexpected return to the stage has to do with the weak financial position of Leonard Cohen, because of the diversion of funds by its former representative, Kelley Lynch, loot up five million dollars. Once called the ruling favorable to Cohen, she fled and then returned to Canada has overturned on the road for a monumental world tour which began in Spanish stage Leon on July 31.

Years ago the same happened to Sting, who organized a tour to recover in Mallorca which was also one of the scales. His concert at the Hippodrome de Son Pardo became memorable night in order to account for his more recent work, Ten Summorner's Tales.

Before the editorial Leonard Cohen Live in London last March, was kept away from the production of records from the edition of Dear Heather in 2004. In fact had slowed down their activity, with the previous reference Ten new songs, album released 2001.

The solid literary career of Leonard Cohen predates his involvement with music. Being college students published a book of poems Compare Mythologies 1956. Even before editing their first album in 1967, Songs of Leonard Cohen-Suzanne-which had already published two novels: The favorite game (1963) and the beautiful losers (1966), both written in his retirement on the Greek island of Hydra.

The perfect combination of poetry, novels and music, always brilliant, and always resolved their various activities in his unmistakable, minimalist style make him an artist as an integral few. There are also in the life of Leonard Cohen elements that make it different, like being Jewish in a predominantly Christian community, where English-speaking and the majority language is French. Now back to reside in Montreal, in the Portuguese district of this beautiful Canadian city which also saw him.

After his stop in Palma, seven other cities are waiting to turn singer in Spanish. Gijón Girona and shall be in and visit them before they give Cohen a jump to its international tour by several Central European countries. On September 12 will return to Madrid, Spanish farewell final chapter of the world tour September 21 at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona.

Everybody knows. In my secret life ("ja, ja, ja!") y Who by fire, con iniciático solo flamenco del guitarrista aragonés Javier Mas. Triste en contenido, Heart with no companion.

Sister of mercy, Lady midnight y The partisan, solo un poco antes de Boogie Street y otro trío de obligatorias: Hallelujah, I´m your man y Take this waltz. El primero, So long Marianne y First we take Manhattan. De segundo, Famous Blue Raincoat y Closing Time. El adiós, con I tried to leave you y Whither Thou Goest.

Levitating with Leonard

Cohen, Canadian poet, mystic was to review three hours of music history. Nearly three thousand people thanked him last night in an Arena Palma never sounded so good

PALMA. The disoriented and spiritual 'man in the gray suit never was Gregory Peck, but Leonard Cohen, although black dress from the feet to the heart. Buddhist bourgeois, skinny trousers and no writer in the world of course, was a singer for a living, decided that an inevitable maltrago alleviate They focused on their on, hopes and desires really fragmented. And, of course, with some pharmacies. The Canadian and longevity, confirmed last night that the age is filtered by the eyes, impossible to be perfect to the seductive almost 75. However, in a conference veteran Palma Arena never sounded so good. No fluffy sings Mr Cohen, in fact never did. Perhaps runrunea refined. Whispers, between tender and firm, insisted yesterday as among those tears and cursed shades of caustic irony with which lightens their pessimism. Poet, first and foremost, the three-hour gathering stage is not never been that great of a dancer boyfriend was Suzzane Verdala. Sold out up there over the men in black dandy, leading to limit its apparent fragility, thin. Two decades after narrowly not filled in Mallorca, but the excuse was empty because it is parallel career artist, authentic and unfriendly. And because it was costing his whim. Slightly more than 3,000 people welcomed him with it honestly. The same with which he thanked his hears taking off his hat again and again. Again and again. Again and again. Vip zone, and having scraped pockets, the Infanta Elena and Cristina, Inaki Urdangarín with Kyril and Rosario Nadal of Bulgaria. Nearby, Trueba brothers, David and Fernando. And men of letters, such as José Carlos Llop, Hilari Cara and Agustín Fernández Mallo.

Psalm poetry and rap is a velodrome in a theater, a little tight, but not unfeasible. This was demonstrated from the first of the 25 songs of the night, a Dance me to the end of love that Cohen confirmed to enter show running-kneeling-with desire to taste and enjoy. The Future continued, something died for him, with delicious vocals and a brief "thank you very much" final. Is not no cure for love rang the third, a little more applause. After pausing, the single word: "It is a pleasure playing for you. We do not know when it may be repeated, so we're going to give you everything we have inside." The teacher spoke for him and the nine who accompany him and make him much better.

Everybody knows. In my secret life ( "ha, ha, ha!"), And Who by fire, with only initiatory Aragonese flamenco guitarist Javier Mas. Sad in content, with no companion Heart. Waiting for the miracle and poetry without artifice with Anthem to discuss everything that is likely to fall through a hole.

Reached the break, fifteen minutes, rebooted with Tower of song and the necessary Suzzane, with Don Cohen on guitar. Sister of Mercy, and The Lady midnight partisan, just a little before Boogie Street and another trio of binding: Hallelujah, I'm your man and Take this waltz. On the words to describe it. After a near escape, the encores, which were expected. The first, So long Marianne, and First we take Manhattan. Second, Famous Blue Raincoat and Closing Time. Farewell, I tried to leave with you and Whither Thou Goesten. Bravo to the artist and his musicians. Y olé Levite for the public, and now has reason to feel a little more than yesterday.

La fila 5 de Leonard Cohen

Diariode Mallorca - August 13, 2009 by Vanessa Sánchez

Row 5 of Leonard Cohen

Diariode Mallorca - August 13, 2009 by Vanessa Sánchez

Many anecdotes, best songs, left behind by Leonard Cohen concert he gave, to the delight of his supporters, last Tuesday at the Palma Arena controversial. As expected, many faces of culture, politics and high society of the island and was accompanied by over three hours to tuck Canadian artist.

The most fun of the evening was the President, Maria Antonia Munar. Accompanied by her husband, said the policy had served to recital reunited with co-generation. We also enjoyed the beauty Trueba brothers, David and Fernando, now resting at his home in Cala Llamp. In the audience, without losing detail, were also writers such as Agustín Fernández Mallo, Miguel Dalmau or Hilari Cara, Pep Suasi and musicians like Joan Feliu, Joan Llaneros as athletes, judges such as topical Pedro Barceló.

But undoubtedly, was the row 5 of Palma Arena raised the most expectations, with the permission of Mr. Cohen. Infanta Elena and the Dukes of Palma arrived together minutes before the start of the recital. Also accompanied them Kyril and Rosario Nadal of Bulgaria. The couple, as always, drew attention because of their disparate attire. He, like right out of a sort of kite-surfing, her flawless, elegant.

Not all equally endured three hours. Redundancy, for sleep or whatever, the Duchess of Lugo took off for the intermediate to Marivent. In the rest, the Dukes of Palma took the opportunity to talk with the filmmakers. However, the encores, Cristina and Iñaki not arrived.

Another major faces that are in the audience could guess was that of Thomas Graves, son of Robert Graves. Undoubtedly, this would be most of the attendees met Leonard Cohen. It is well known that the singer was an admirer of the British writer and in fact, sent him the cover of their first album. They also shared their vision of women as a source of inspiration.

Has not been spared the false bomb threats Sylianne Stella. The woman who shared more than two decades with José Luis de Vilallonga, last Tuesday saw the madness was unleashed at the store you have in Andratx. Were evicted by a false call.

Live in Palma

The future, Ain't no cure for love, Everybody knows... sense oblidar temes com Suzzanne i Hallelujah.

Leonard Cohen, added that since 75 years, recounts his career yesterday at the Palma Arena musical about 3,500 people before and after 15 years of silence

Finally the day arrived. Leonard Cohen at the Palma Arena. You may find hidden relationships. Saturday, by Raphael, the joke was easy. Crisis in the middle of the operation Espasa, Scandal was the final song. Yesterday, with Cohen watching him play in 75 years, with that husky voice and the characteristic black Ceremonious, one could not stop thinking about the 5 million dollars that someone deviates from your checking account. A "scam sonada, many have said, which encourages the return to the stage after 15 years of silence and that has caused, so that 3,500 people yesterday Devers could have a brilliant show and one that certainly Palma do not see anymore. He said the public will islander: "I do not know when you come back here, so now we come prepared to give everything we have."

Over three hours of the concert will master. Appeared on stage in 2135 with abillat dark suit, man's shirt and gray game. Leonard Cohen started the concert with the song Dance me to the end of love, and from there, could be followed almost ins of the London Live album, recorded live last year in the British capital, which came in stores of Spain in April. The Future, Is not no cure for love, Everybody knows ... not to mention issues such as Hallelujah and Suzzanne. Cohen showed up at Palma as a strong but discreet. At 75 years old still has enough elasticity to move beyond the stage, to define themselves and kneel in front of the musicians as a sign of admiration. A surprising detail is that the channel is always placed in the background when the protagonist is not it, but the instrumentalists. In this sense, also be the chorus girl, who at any given time with some surprise cucaveles. It sounds like.

The performance of Leonard Cohen was considered by many to be the concert of the summer. At the Palma Arena, however, and surprisingly, they too saw empty chairs, both on the court to the stands (and one that the public had registered to be collected due to lack of visibility). Among the attendees were some familiar faces, like Helena and Infanta Cristina, who arrived accompanied by Iñaki Urdangarin, Rosario Nadal and Kyril of Bulgaria, filmmakers David and Fernando Trueba, the President of Parliament, Maria Antonia Munar, and Minister of Culture, Galmés Barbara, among others. In the end, what matters, however, is music. Yesterday, the Palma Arena, with Leonard Cohen at the helm, passed the test with very good note.

Cohen no sabe cuándo volverá

Diario de Mallorca - August 13, 2009 by Matías Vallés

Like a bird on the wire.

Cohen does not know when again

Diario de Mallorca - August 13, 2009 by Matías Vallés

Leonard Cohen belongs to the select-Dylan and his ilk, in my case, the artists who put on our mood. Canadian makes you feel in your literality thermostat that modulates emotional and draw your perception of reality. The alliance assumes a prior delivery of the listener. The singer returned to shape this trick on Tuesday, when mounted on his traveling circus of Palma depression. Faced with the rebellion as grand as sterile, the starting point of accountability Cohen is universal. Once at the lowest point imaginable, bursting with fun power multiplied.

Leonard Cohen was as close to a religion that allowed little souls martial. In a letter to Rolling Stone, one reader claimed that American wanted to hear your music when you play say goodbye to this world. This woman did not want to die, but resurrected because the artist composes songs that give life to death. They demonstrated that dialogue is initiated with the transcendent, but no one listens or responds. In this chapter, the best Palma stood out among all the taped version of Like a bird on the wire. Beyond its incandescent point - "like the child that is born dead, / as the beast with his horns / he destroyed anyone I held out the hand" - to improvise the final stanza is addressed first to the ultimate cause of his philosophy. "All this was yearning for you." The recipient was not present.

The average attendance to the concert of Leonard Cohen in Palma is an excellent sign, we resist the Mallorcans to distract us from the trivial to fundamental issues. If the situation worsens, there will be some remorse. Not because of the excellent musical show, that premise will never be an additional bonus but enthusiastic poet. I refer rather to their comment, "I do not know when we will go through here, so I'll give everything." He was referring to Mallorca, but also to life, if someone is right to distinguish between them.

Castrelos, mudo ante Cohen

Atlantico - August 14, 2009 by Andrea Estévez (Photo: lydia miranda)

Castrelos estaba a reventar.

Castrelos, Cohen moved to

Atlantico - August 14, 2009 by Andrea Estévez (Photo: lydia miranda)

Nearly 30,000 people, including Minister of Development, went to see the Canadian concert, which lasted three hours

Leonard Cohen Castrelos silenced in the concert of the year in Vigo. Nearly 30,000 people filled the auditorium to the flag from early afternoon to witness a live concert of a myth that meets 75 years and seems to preserve their power. It was not an action to use, but in silence, barely visible with the artist for three hours.

Castrelos was small, too small to accommodate a large: Leonard Cohen. Nearly 30,000 people came to see the most anticipated concert in recent months, the Canadian artist who left the audience in awe with a performance that lasted three hours. Cohen managed to make two completely opposite things, mute the audience completely and start the public strongest applause and cheers. At by ten o'clock the night went on the stage with his usual black suit and hat of the same color, after which hid his face. Timid, and a certain air of enigmatic, barely revealed her face. With his right hand holding the microphone and strongly with the left fist closed. Always semiagachado, walked across the stage, accompanied by a female choir, and repeatedly knelt, bent over and touched the floor while interpreting the themes of his latest album, 'Live in London', which contains a recording of concerts of the world tour he made last year with 73 years of age. But Cohen's concert started at ten in the evening, many hours before he did. And that morning there were people in the stands keeping site. Groups of friends and families were planted in the Park Castrelos with umbrellas for sun protection, snacks, soft drinks and wait. At mid-afternoon it was just an empty site and an hour and a half before the performance doors were opened to the public most successful, which had input. Were put up for sale near 2300 and all were sold several days ago.

Camping in the park

Castrelos was bursting. The auditorium, complete and in the stands could not be a pin, and on the lawn crowd of fans who chose to lie on the grass and enjoy the performance. Not only Vigo, also had the rest of Galicia, from different points of Spain, like Madrid and Salamanca, and some abroad. The authorities have not failed. In front were the Minister of Development, Joseph White, who moved to Vigo to see one of their idols. He accompanied the mayor, Abel Caballero, the Deputy Mayor Santiago Dominguez, and several councilors. Also attending the delegation and the government in Galicia and Antón Louro Delfín Fernandez and the president of the Chamber of Commerce in Vigo, José García Costas, accompanied by his wife. The concert was more like a tremendous traffic chaos in the vicinity of the park that the police were unable to control at times. The parking was impossible in the area, people leaving their cars where they could but fell several fines go to Cohen. Besides singer is a poet and novelist. He published eleven books and sold 15 million albums throughout his music career that began in the'60s. His themes revolve around three axes, love, sex and religion and his lyrics are very emotive and lyrically complex. Got it, Leonard Cohen moved to Vigo.

Faro de Vigo - August 14, 2009 by Silvia Camesella (Photo: J. Lores)

Y, como colofón a su esponjoso sonido, hicieron su aparición "I tried to leave you" y "Whither Thou Goest".

Leonard Cohen turns into an auditorium Castrelos intimate poetry recitals

Faro de Vigo - August 14, 2009 by Silvia Camesella (Photo: J. Lores)

The Canadian musician reviewed before more than 20,000 songs from his legendary career

VIGO It was presented as a poet "impostor", as defined in humility once. No Leonard Cohen jumped on stage from the audience time Castrelos for what it is: a prophet through his serious voice recites some of his wisdom, borrowing the word as a greater expression of their music. A unique combination that magnetize to anyone listening, as happened yesterday at more than 20,000 people who do not want to miss the concert event of the year in Vigo, which lasted three hours.

Quiet time

Despite being one of the greats of music, trouserpress longevity, which is about to turn 75 years, was immediate. With an extreme time, at 22.00 hours, Leonard Cohen, left the stage, wearing the traditional gray suit and his hat borsalino faithful traveling companion. Among ovation of applause that he dedicated the public gathered at Castel barely a glimmer discreet "Thank You" to the mouth of Canada.

And then it came: "Dance me to the end of love", the song chosen by the artist to open up, kneeling, particularly poetry. This item was followed by "The Future", "Is not no cure for love" and "Bird on the wire, which interleave a brief nod to the public, which welcomed its pledge to give" all things have " . For the 35 minutes of an exceptional concert guitar solo that preceded the question "Who by fire" hedgehog skin here and put the note to the flamenco show. In total 25 songs that were whispered Cohen during his direct and form part of his latest album "Live in London" (2009). Accompanied by six musicians and three singers who wore the same style that characterizes the poet, is reserved for the end of their compulsory direct "Hallelujah," "I'm your man" and "Take this Waltz". But his verses with torn shades of irony did not end here. In the friendly last night, Cohen left room for the expected encores, in which the artist throughout the delegated role to songs like "So long Marianne" and "First we take Manhattan." And, as the culmination of his spongy sound, made their appearance "I tried to leave you" and "Whither Thou Goesten.

Yesterday was the third stop on the Spanish tour of "The Quiet", a name which was the musician in 1996 after being ordained Zen Buddhist monk. The Leonese were the first to enjoy their live show last July 31, while the Canadian was unable to fill the arena. Eleven days later it was the turn of the nearly 3000 who came to campus Mallorcans Palma Arena. However, in Vigo, where he was also a writer Leonard Cohen gathered over the public. Evidence of raised espectación arrival in the city was the speed with which the tickets were sold out to see her straight from the chicken coop. Four days were enough to sell the 1,700 stocks that were on sale for the reasonable price of 18 euros. We must emphasize "small" because the entries in other cities can reach 500 euros. This exorbitant price relates to Cohen's return to the stage after ten years away from music. It was his representative, Kelley Lynch, who forced his return to the scene last year, after five million dollars diverted from the accounts, which led the artist to ruin. Fruit of the tour in 2008, is his new album, "Live in London", recorded live in London.

Picked up his career, during his trip are still seven Spanish direct. True poetry recitals in which is the melody that emanates from their thin brittle. A refined purr creates an intimate aura full of magnetism, that getting to hypnotize anyone who hears him.

Previamente, Cohen accedió a dejarse fotografiar unos instantes.

"Vigo is pretty from the window of the hotel"

La Voz de Galicia - August 13, 2009 by Marina Chiavegatto (Photo: CARLOS FOLGOSO)

The artist, who in recent days is pretty tired, and ate paella took a little ride

Throughout the evening, a mysterious movement in the hotel reveal that something extraordinary was happening there. Outside, a group of men talking in English. Talked about "he". Without pronouncing the name: Leonard Cohen. The three men commented how "he" was tired in the last two days.

Yes, but until and eat paella, "added the younger.

So the question was inevitable:

-Excuse me, you are Cohen's team?

The answer came in chorus and with a tone almost indignantly: "Nooo!" Answered all of them automatically. Shortly after, one of them came into the van that carried the team for the sound check Castrelos. The other two sat in the lobby to wait for the star.

Leonard Cohen "does not give interviews or leaves into the street." Members of his team argue that the Canadian artist makes only one thing in each of the nine Spanish cities to visit during this tour work. However, Cohen broke the rules yesterday. First, we decided to walk around Vigo, although his barely lasted the five minutes walk. Then he spoke with La Voz de Galicia, albeit briefly.

Dressed in his impeccable suit and hat borsalino, the artist appears at the entrance of your hotel in Vigo surrounded by members of his team:

-Mr Cohen, what is your first impression Vigo?

-It looks pretty from the window of the hotel (said with an impish face of a child).

- What can we expect from the concert?

It was an easy question. Cohen smiles. This response of known memory:

-I will give everything I have.

Previously, Cohen agreed to be photographed a few moments. "Mr. Cohen is a reserved person, justifying their team members.

Yesterday, it appeared, the singer in a good mood.

Xornal - August 14, 2009 (Photo: EFE)

Cantos compositores hai capaces de armar catro clásicos como 'Suzanne', 'Sisters of Mercy', 'So long, Marianne e Hey', 'That’s No Way to Say Goodbye' no seu debut?

Leonard Norman Cohen tomou onte Vigo como se fose o Berlín de ‘First We Take Manhattan’.

Me to the End of Love’.

Recupera ‘Bird On Wire’ de Songs For A Room (1969) e’If It Be Your Will’ de Various Postions (1984). Petisca en New Skin for the Old Ceremony, onde puxera ‘Who By Fire’ en 1974, e no seguinte, Recent Songs (1979), con ‘The Gypsy’s Wife’.

“Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget the perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in”, bísballe ao universo antes de que empece a soar o himno.

>> Leonard Cohen foot pull in about 25,000 people in the auditorium vigués

>> About to meet the 75 years the Canadian repaint their success with a hand of Jazz, one of blue and two of virtuosity

How many composers there are able to build four classics like 'Suzanne', 'Sisters of Mercy', 'So Long, Marianne and Hey,' 'That's No Way to Say Goodbye' in his debut? Which, four decades after that of Leonard Cohen songs (1967), axeonllan his immense talents to make their musicians, one by one, with hat in hand? What, among all those pasarían the crib, but resist with humility and elegance of a Travesía almost three hours on the scene? The answer, as interrogan other sospeitosos, continues to be easy: the dark suit in Canadian yesterday that pull on foot to 25,000 people, maybe more, maybe much less in the park of Castrelo.

Leonardo Norman Cohen Vigo took yesterday as if the Berlin 'First We Take Manhattan'. About to meet, celebrate 75 years, certainly, the next September 21 in Barcelona, to fill the largest auditorium Montreal born in Portugal with more select of his discography. The voice engordoulle because acubilla treasures even more than in the sixties, when he published his first poems in Canada and decided to make songs the other side of their own skate. All the opposite of what its delgadísima silueta, fráxil but slim, which threatens disolverse with the curve of a retrouso. The rest remains intact.

Not that Live in London is the basis of his repertoire. Is that this live recording from March this year, condensed the philosophy of redemptive-turn was ruined before it starts again as a Partisan bill, with efficiency and sacrifice, which has lasted two years. The view was that the Lisbon last summer wise what would happen as soon as they come on the scene and Cohen abrise pandora's box with crown of 'Dance Me to the End of Love'. The rest, in reality, too. Imaxinárano well for many years.

Outside the deostado Death of a Ladies' Man (1977) to be in the hands of Phil Spector, there is almost none of your disks of studio that does not remember the father of her daughter Lorca, has the name of honor, and poet. The last, Dear Heather (2004), the first, the songs of Leonard Cohen (1967), who knows how to read in the hands of the public, the Canadian vai Apan of piles that worked for forty years the fruit more round. Recovering 'Bird On Wire' is a room of Song (1969) e'If It Be Your Will 'de Various Postions (1984). Petisco in New Skin for the Old Ceremony, where puxera 'Who By Fire' in 1974, and the following, Recent Song (1979), with 'The Gypsy's wife'. E xaora, back on their steps more accessible, I'm from the YOR Man (1988) and The Future (1992), with a dam met the standards of 'Little Vienna Vals' de Lorca -' Take This to Waltz' - modernísimo 'democracy'.

Arroupado by nine musicians, Sharon Robertson and Webb Sisters, in addition to the crown, tocan, dance and make it to Montreal pinchacarneiros repaint their success with a veneer of camera: a handful of blue, another of Jazz, two of virtuosity. Preciosa, accuracy, impecábel-too-predicíbel, the small ensemble, "as he called the bardo, the Castrelo convinced. Escoitàndoos, it seems easy to be Leonard Cohen.

There are those who are according to Jeff Buckley, when identifying the threshold of 'Hallelujah' and who relies on Morente and Nick lagartija to better enjoy the 'First We Take Manhattan'. When Cohen was the composer who preferred the other voices and music. Once sentilo recite live 'Anthem' is very difficult to continue in the same thirteen. "Ring the Bell that still can ring. Leonard Cohen lleva la reventa a Cap Roig

El Pais - August 16, 2009 by Rebeca Carranco

Montserrat no daba crédito. Su mejor cumpleaños.

Leonard Cohen takes the reseller to Cap Roig

El Pais - August 16, 2009 by Rebeca Carranco

Some 2,000 people remained yesterday the Canadian performance artist

The boy is late, nervous, approached the ticket office and asked in a quite acceptable Spanish: "Is there resale." "A man up there ...", replied the youth behind the counter. Unlike the rest of his concerts in Spain, yesterday swept into the Leonard Cohen Festival of Gardens at Cap Roig in Calella de Palafrugell. The tickets were exhausted from four hours to put on sale. And there were resale, according to both the blockbuster as the staff of the VIP tent, while a person in the organization of the festival denial.

More than 2,000 people were leaving the skinny musician Canadian -74 years, 75 will meet the September 21, the day of his concert at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, almost like clockwork. Sheathed in his black suit, at ten and four minutes came on the stage slowly, then knelt and her Dance me to the end of love. Montserrat piruleta had eyes like listening to his idol. She along with her husband Josep, had booked a weekend in Calella to see Cohen. Furthermore, we happy, "his 50th birthday today." "But not married, your birthday," joked Josep.

During three hours of deep throat Cohen resonated in the gardens of the Costa Brava mixed with smell of grass. Whether debt is a bad investment or a bad friend who fled with the money from his retirement, acknowledged yesterday that the strong Canadian artist has risen again to the stage. The respectable applauded even hurt. Among them were also fellow profession as Manolo Garcia or Antonio Carmona.

Marc, of Llançà, looked to his favorite artist. "And I have 32 years," boasted of breaking the topic of Cohen is that for another generation. "I am happy", said brief and eager to stop talking to listen to music and its three singers. Even a little breeze got up suddenly. Everything seemed to think that the night was perfect. Un mito viviente en la Costa Brava

El Periódico - August 16, 2009 by César López Rosell

A living legend in Costa Brava

El Periódico - August 16, 2009 by César López Rosell

Cap Roig Festival closed last night of this year in an unprecedented atmosphere of expectation. Two hours before the concert of Leonard Cohen, the central courtyard and the inner room of the cloister, where he receives the vips, were packed with an audience eager to witness the performance of the legendary author of Suzanne.

The consellers Joaquim Nadal and Josep Huguet and the leader of CiU, Artur Mas, besides exconseller Ferran Mascarell were among the enthusiastic followers of the flagship Canadian singer-songwriter. He also met, among others, entrepreneurs Salvador Alemany, Carlos and Albert Colomé Costafreda addition of Dr. Santiago Dexeus the directive of FC Barcelona and Magda Oranich singers Manolo Garcia and Antonio Carmona. Shortly before the performance, about 25 people, some from abroad, had problems with their tickets purchased via the Internet: the majority eventually located on the premises by the organization.

Cohen, austere habits and artist who likes to travel with his musicians, was pleased with the conditions of an ideal audience to showcase the intimate recording of his repertoire. Before acting, in the dressing room there were two bottles of select wine from Bordeaux, including Château Rauzan a Secular-2003. The musician also called fruit and vegetables, which he shared with his musicians.

Cohen, who was on the point came last year, adjusted its cache, which in 2008 amounted to € 400,000 to 300,000 of this show, as they offer another recital in Catalonia, the September 23 day of 75th birthday, in the Palau Sant Jordi, site of much larger capacity.

This was the most budget spectacle of the sample, together with recitals of Julio Iglesias, who received 500,000 euros for the two galas, somewhat less than in 2008. The singer, who has a cache of 300,000 euros, announced on Friday during his second performance that was committed to Concert Studio, the company Lennie Mil Festival organized the event with the help of sponsorship and other Caixa Girona Sponsors to back to 2010.

Cohen expone carisma y magisterio en Cap Roig

El Periódico - August 16, 2009 by Jordi Bianciotto (Photos: EDDY KELELE)

«HE VISTO EL FUTURO» // El recital se abrió con el vals decadente Dance me to the end of love, y tomaron el relevo versos inquietantes. «He visto el futuro y es el asesinato», entonó Cohen en The future. Estrofas de apocalipsis, pero también de enamoramiento (Ain’t no cure for love), libertad (Bird on the wire) y esperanza (Waiting for a miracle).

Cohen exposes charisma and teaching in Cap Roig

El Periódico - August 16, 2009 by Jordi Bianciotto (Photos: EDDY KELELE)

• The Montreal board a songwriter of emotional and generous recital in Calella de Palafrugell in which thoroughly reviewed four decades of career to an audience focused

Leonard Cohen last night returned to the Mediterranean, and common mental home that inspired their poems for five decades. Cap Roig is the island of Hydra, but the proximity of pine and olive trees had to be inspiring for an artist such as the biblical quotes, powered by the cultures of the Mare Nostrum baptismal and seduced by the human scale. Gentil and liturgical Cohen quenches 2,200 fans last night, which at the time the tickets sold out in four hours, with a recital of texture and generous master. Few codes are so influential and cited as his own. There paraded one by one, about twenty songs that carry profound meanings and resume the old dialogue between ethics and aesthetics.

Cohen whispered and sang with their litanies ascetic manners, bent over and knelt before the public, and took off his hat every time one of his musicians did a solo. Shone, especially the chorus (and co-author of several songs of the night) Sharon Robinson, bassist Roscoe Beck (artistic director) and multinstrumentista Zaragoza, Barcelona adoption, Javier Mas, who introduced Cohen as "great virtuoso." The star recently spoke out and the maximum of the tour: "Our intention is to give you everything we have."

Recital long and winding, three hours with a break divide. Songs reviewed precise calligraphy and organic sound that contrasted with the finish of some technological products, in particular those of 80. Hence, the exception was Tower of song, performed by the artist with a synthesizer.

"I've seen the future" / / The show opened with the decadent waltz Dance me to the end of love, and took over disturbing lyrics. "I've seen the future and it is murder," Cohen then in the future. Stanzas of apocalypse, but also of falling in love (Is not no cure for love), freedom (Bird on the wire) and hope (Waiting for a miracle). Voice mate, but by no means minimized by age. The Webb Sisters (Charley and Hattie) sounded somewhat adolescents away from the thickness of the singers of the past (Jennifer Warnes, Perla Batalla), but to cover this deficit was, fortunately, the remnants Robinson. In the first set of songs there was space for rescue solemn Who by fire and pieces closest in time, as In my secret life, Waiting for a miracle and Anthem. The surprise was Lover, lover, lover.

In the second part dominated eltempo scores came forward to Cohen about four decades ago, like Suzanne, Sisters of Mercy and The partisan. More naked arrangements, acoustic guitar in the foreground and sensitive dialogue with the female voices. Sharon Robinson had his moment of glory with a solo interpretation of Boogie Street, the song in 2001 illustrated the return of Cohen to the years after World terrestrial zen.

CEREMONY AND VALS / Javier Mas's contributions were the most surprising because he never had covered the Canadian singer-songwriter repertoire that halo handmade Mediterranean, with winks to the East, described by its bandurria his lute and his archilaúd. But he was treated by Cohen, but also other creative musicians received flattering: the clarinetist was introduced as "the master of breath"; keyboardist as "subtle" Robinson was the "incomparable", and the Webb sisters were baptized as 'sublime'.

The tension in the auditorium Jardins de Cap Roig was released with Hallelujah. If the recital began with a waltz, ending (apart encores) going back to the rhythm Take this waltz with the emotional adaptation of Lorca. Meetings between salvos generous tip of ovations lit: So long, Marianne, First We Take Manhattan Famous Blue Raincoat, Closing time ... and a final point and Whither thou Goesten performed a cappella by all the banda. In public, an extensive foreign presence Calella who came expressly to see and hear the singer.

A Cohen awaits a long European tour. Today operates in the Colmar Festival in France, and the route will continue until September 21, the date of his recital at the Sant Jordi in its 75th anniversary. Travel to Madrid (September 12), Granada (13), Zaragoza (15), Bilbao (17) and Valencia (18), which is its Spanish tour longer. Cohen hurries this reunion with the audience after 15 years of retirement. The gratitude and emotion of the scene last night rebosaron Cap Roig. That was the tone of his last words. "Thank you all for keeping my music alive all these years. I thank you deeply."

Reconstruyendo a Cohen

Diario de Mallorca - August 16, 2009 by Miguel Dalmau

¿Qué me encontraré?

Entonces, ¿ a qué venía nuestro canguelo?

Reconstructing Cohen

Diario de Mallorca - August 16, 2009 by Miguel Dalmau

As birthday is a life becomes a reunion ceremony. He said the high Azorín live to see it again. But that's past re-appears often as a final question of doubt. Last Tuesday, for instance, I had the opportunity to return to this in the unforgettable concert of Leonard Cohen. And I know that I was not alone. Although no one openly, the question floating in the air. What I find? ¿Suffer a disappointment? There were many predictions of doom regarding the teacher's ability, that all doubts were fully justified. At least for the layman, who were the majority. However, if one spoke with Salvador Font, for example, one of those musicians that are a luxury for any art of any country, and quiet breathing. Salvador, who was the great made me see the assembly to be brought impeccable Cohen, a security which was fully confirmed when the band started the concert by the Canadian and we all noted that it sounded better than ever. And something more rare, that many of his records were not as good as what we were hearing.

So what was our funk? Well the fact that Cohen was more than the protagonist of the concert of the summer: it was burning a nail in the memory, or if you prefer, a mirror that caught our first adult emotions. But whose significance had been diluted somewhat with time. It is true that several generations had sung their magical songs. But how much had happened? Twenty, thirty years? At that time had run much of our lives. In other words, everything that we had sung from ignorance teenager, who had discovered by Cohen and displayed as exhibits to the novice hunter tigre anesthetized with a photo of a room, eventually forming part of our history. Loves, disappointments, loneliness, farewell, betrayal .... and leaving aside the role we played in the Via Crucis-cannibals are on the bottom-living had fallen Golgotha. That is not little.

There is something psychological in the case. If, as feared, the idol had lost his voice and the concert was a fiasco, or if we had had to attend the final show of his decline, would have received as a result of head impact collapse of our own staff. But it turns out that this Jew was beloved as ever: elegant, gentle, active, seductive ... And the vision of that miracle of resistance is implicitly endorsed our modest prodigy particular. Like Cohen, we were still alive and not too bad. We could communicate, share, emotion. It was wonderful timing, even as if the insults of time we had been damaged. Hence levitáramos as midgets, trannies fervor and gratitude. In the end, Cohen has always been a mirror. And in the background loomed at him without disgust brought us a great relief. Even the best self-help manuals have obtained.
